Proud Source Water is sealed at the source in Mackay, Idaho, guarded by one of the most prominent peaks in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. McCaleb. As water from rain and snow filters through layers of ancient rock, it is purified and transformed naturally, absorbing essential minerals that make it alkaline. The difference is in the taste; pristine and exceptionally crisp, crafted 100% by Mother Nature. Our proud source is millions of years in the making.
At Proud Source Water, we are always striving towards the most sustainable business practices. Because freight contributes to most of our carbon emissions, we wanted to find a way to reduce it as much as possible. Having two water sources strategically located on opposing ends of the US reduces our carbon footprint and creates more streamlined distribution operations.
Both of our spring sources are naturally alkaline with a pH of +/- 8.1. They also contain similar mineral composition. The primary difference between the two sources is how they are naturally filtered. Given the different geographic locations, the terrain naturally differs. Our Rocky Mountain spring water is filtered through ancient volcanic rock and our Apalachicola Forest Spring water is filtered through thousands of layers of limestone rock.
We service the country based on your shipping location. As a company, we are dedicated to hydrating consumers in the most sustainable way possible. We strive to service every location within a 1200-mile radius of one of our source locations. Generally, if you live on the West side of the country, you will receive Rocky Mountain Spring Water and if you live on the East side you will receive Apalachicola Forest Spring Water.
Proud Source® follows all FDA requirements for spring water filtration including UV and Ozone disinfecting systems. While it is filtered, the water still keeps all of its rich minerals and nutrients that purified water loses during filtration.
Proud Source Water® is 100% spring water with zero additives. We pride ourselves in offering the highest quality spring water, crafted by mother nature.
Proud Source Water® comes from the ground with natural occurring minerals and electrolytes. Our water has a balanced level of minerals with high levels of calcium and bicarbonates.
• Calcium, magnesium and potassium support muscle movement, nerve function and a healthy immune system
• Silica is essential in the formation of collagen
• Bicarbonates work as an acid buffer
• Chlorides help balance cellular fluids
Purified water can come from any water source; however, it most commonly begins as tap water sourced from a densely populated municipality and then treated to meet the U.S Pharmacopeia definition of purified water.
On the other hand, spring water is water sourced from an underground aquifer. The origin of spring water is from nature, not a manmade municipal system. While it is filtered, the water still keeps all of its rich minerals and nutrients that purified water loses during filtration.
By definition, alkaline water has a pH (potential of hydrogen) greater than 7.4. Water becomes naturally alkaline when it picks up mineral + nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, and other essential minerals from rocks while flowing through streams. These natural minerals affect the pH level and therefore make the water naturally alkaline.
A quick Google Search will reveal that most common bottled water has an acidic pH- lower than 7. Alkaline water, on the other hand, is very rare in the natural world. Less than 1% of the worlds water is naturally high alkaline and Proud Source Water takes pride in bottling our 8.1 - 8.5pH alkaline water at the source.
We chill the water to an optimal temperature and inject CO2. The water then moves to a buffer tank where it is mixed around to homogenize and then gets put into a bottle! All of our water’s naturally occurring minerals and electrolytes are maintained through this process.
BPA, which stands for bisphenol A, is an industrial chemical that has been used to make plastics since the 1950s. It’s found in polycarbonate plastics, which are containers that often store food and beverage products.
There is research to suggest that BPA can seep into food or beverages from containers that are made with BPA. Exposure to BPA is a concern because of possible health effects on the brain and prostate gland of fetuses, infants and children. It can also affect children's behavior. Additional research suggests a possible link between BPA and increased blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We’re proud to serve our water in a BPA-free bottle.
We currently use a BPANI liner, which is a recent innovation. It is an epoxy-based coating that uses zero BPA in its formulation. In addition, the coating has no styrene and complies with Prop 65 NSRL. The coating (liner) constitutes a very small percentage of the total bottle by weight. They are driven off completely in the recycling process and do not affect the bottle’s recyclability.
Yes! Our bottles are made of infinitely recyclable aluminum, which means that when you discard your Proud bottle in the recycling bin, the bottle materials can be reused continually for generations to come. That’s a lot compared to most other packaging materials that have lower recycling rates and yields.
The shelf life of our product is 2 years. Because the product is a natural spring water, it technically never expires—the 2 years is a "best by" date.
Yes. We pride ourselves on using the safest, most sustainable materials so you can enjoy water the way nature intended. All our bottles contain a liner that protects the water from the aluminum substrate, making it 100% safe to consume and a delicious drinking experience!
Yes! Aluminum has higher thermal conductivity, which provides for faster and more efficient heat transfer. So, when you grab a Proud bottle that has been sitting in the fridge or an ice cooler, it will contain the cooling properties much longer than other materials.
Proud Source bottles are made with 100% aluminum, with 75% of that aluminum being post-consumer recycled. There is also a liner that is designed to act as a barrier to protect the packaged product from the aluminum substrate, and conversely to protect the can from the product—making it completely safe to consume.
The liner is an epoxy-based coating that uses zero BPA in its formulation. In addition, the coating has no styrene and complies with Prop 65 NSRL. Each bottle receives a flexible coating on the entire surface – both inside and out. The coating (liner) constitutes a very small percentage of the total bottle by weight. It is driven off completely in the recycling process and does not affect the recyclability!

Proud Source Water was founded on the principles of doing good for others. Our brand journey began with a mission to create jobs in a small, mountain town in the Northern Rockies called Mackay, Idaho - population 514. (pronounced Mack-EE).
Among the many natural gifts the region has brought to us is water - specifically Alkaline Spring Water. Less than 1% of the world's spring water is Alkaline. The Spring Water in Mackay is legendary and revered by the local generations as the best tasting spring water known to mankind. There’s an expression Mackay locals like to say, “Once you’ve tasted the water in Mackay, you’ll never leave.”
The founding team of Proud Source Water has deep roots in the community of Mackay. A co-founder is from a 6th generation family from Mackay. He is credited with the idea to create a bottled water company with this precious asset from the town as a way to boost local jobs and build back a foundation to this small community in the Rockies. Proud Source Water has also pledged to conserve the spring and will never take more than 5% of the spring’s output.
Our goal is to make strides toward environmental and social change. These are our 5 commitments:
1. Carbon neutral operations by 2025 and carbon neutral supply chain by 2030.
• In Idaho, we use a gravity-fed filtration system that reduces energy usage and in Florida, our facility is solar powered.
2. Eliminate all virgin packaging materials in our supply chain.
3. Increase our B-Corp Impact Assessment score by 40% by 2025.
4. Invest in two source community projects per year.
• By owning and running our production facilities, we create jobs in small town USA.
5. Donate $100,000 annually to support outdoor cleanups.
• We support organizations that combat single-use plastic through sustainability education and nature clean-ups.
